Wow! it has been 3 weeks since I've written! I was in Mississippi for 10 days at an SCA event, called Gulf War. This was GW 18, so we had the name before the Persian gulf war. I also had a fan burning out on my desk top computer, so I didn't dare to even turn it on for fear of frying its circuits. I replaced the fan today. The first fan I tried had the wrong connector.
We sold our house in town. The closing was last Tuesday. That will take some of the financial strain off of us. Now we need to fix/build fence, till a garden, mow pastures, build animal housing, and pay down some credit card bills, so we can start to build our new house.
I've sadly given up my dream of building a straw bale house. I've been convinced that, yes you can build them here, but the up-keep in this climate is too much work if you plan to run a business, or do anything else besides re-plaster your walls every 6 months or so, to keep them from mildewing. We will use more conventional materials more suited to hot, humid climates.
We bought a newer, second hand car. Mike now has a 2006, Saturn, Ion, with less than 40,000 miles on it. It's first owner took great care of it, but she has a company car she can use for 100% of her personal driving, and hadn't driven the Ion much in the last 7 months. With Mike in Spain, it sure is nice to be able to go to the grocery store without unhitching the truck and trailer.
I went to dinner with friends I used to see monthly, and now see every 6 months if Im lucky. It was great to see them. I miss our monthly dinners, but with Lois living most of the time in Maryland, we just don't seem to make the effort to get together when she isn't here.
I've lost about 35-38 lbs since July. It is great to fit in my skinny jeans!
