Well, we didn't get much done on the arena fence over the weekend. The tractor had a flat tire, and the auger bit's replaceable teeth were worn down too far to dig in. I tried to buy replacements, but the store I went to didn't have the right ones. We ended up working on killing scrub bushes, called rattle box, or chinese whisteria, that is all over our pastures, and yard. The stuff is hard to kill, and it is toxic to eat any part of it. Luckly we have enough grass that the animals don't try to eat it.
Today, I went to the feed store, the tractor store where I bought the auger bit, to get the correct replacement teeth, a tire repair shop, where they patched the tube in the tractor tire, and to the grocery store.
I went to the feed store first, cause the other stops were on a circle route from there, and I wouldn't have to cross my path, or double back to get home. It was raining this morning, and drizzled off and on all day, (except at the farm), so I asked the people at the feed store to cover the feed in the bed of my truck, since I had several stops before I went home. The tractor tire was back there too. I told the guy who loads the feed that he could set the wheel up on end and pile the feed beside it, to make room. He got a big black plastic bag, and put the feed in it, but it didn't cover the top, so he got a second bag, covered the feed, and tucked it all in nice and neat. I was sitting in the truck, watching through the back window. It looked OK from where I was sitting, but we hadn't gone more than a couple of miles before the top bag blew off, and it started to drizzle. I pulled into a service station, and tried to cover the feed. That was when I discovered that he had piled the feed on top of the tire and wheel. I went on to my next stop, the tractor dealer, to get the teeth for the auger, and asked them if they fixed tires. They didn't but gave me directions to a place that did. Before I left there, I re-stacked the feed, covered it up as best I could, and went on my way. Next stop, the tire store, where I found out that I didn't need a valve stem, but I needed an inner tube patched, which they did. I tried to cover the feed again, but the stack had slid over, so I couldn't cover it all up, but I did the best I could.
Last stop, HEB, where grandson was waiting to cash in his 39 buddy bucks, in their machine, but the machine was out of order. Oh well, it was that kind of day. We got our groceries, and drove home, where I unloaded the feed, then the groceries, and sat in the AC, cooling off, until husband Mike got home. We put the tire and wheel back in the tractor, the teeth on the auger, and dug some holes. I'm tired!!!
